Why choose our weighted blankets?
We have been making quality weighted blankets for hospital, school, community, and home settings since 2007. We understand that the most vulnerable members of our community often use our blankets. Our aim is to provide a high quality product to deliver proprioceptive input in the safest way possible.
Concentration of weight and why its important
Our blankets are designed for those with high proprioceptive needs. We measure the weight of our blankets in grams per square metre (GSM). Our large blankets range from 5,000 to 6,670 GSM.
5kg weighted blanket approx. 5,000GSM (1m x 1.1m)
7.5kg weighted blanket approx. 5,350GSM (1m x 1.5m)
10kg weighted blanket approx. 6, 670GSM (1m x 1.5m)
12kg weighted blanket approx. 6,420GSM (1.1m x 1.70m)
Blanket size is an important consideration
We make weighted blankets to fit on the body, not the bed. Why? We want the weight to be concentrated where is it needed. A 10kg blanket that is queen bed size at 2m x 1.5m will only be half as light on the body than our 10kg blanket that measures 1m x 1.5m. Most of the weight on a queen bed sized blanket will be on the bed, and not the body. In order for the queen sized blanket to be the same GSM as our one, it would need to weigh 20kg in total.
Facts about the making of our blankets
- Our blankets are weighted with plastic pellets. The pellets are sewn into cells within the blanket to help give an even distribution of weight across the blanket. We use plastic pellets as they can be washed and dried with ease.
- The inner fabric of the blanket is poly-cotton drill. This fabric was chosen for its strong and durable qualities and weight.
- Each weighted blanket uses approximately 7 metres of fabric (4.5 metres for the 5kg and 3kg weighted blankets).
- All cells within the blanket are double stitched to help prevent pellet leakage.
- The final outer layer of the blanket is finished with heavy duty stitching around the blanket. This helps to ensure that the blanket can withstand the weight of the pellets over time and use.
- The lap pads, lap blankets and shoulder weights are weighted with glass pellets. These are not washable, and are covered with a wipeable nylon outer.
