Using sensory equipment can be an empowering for self-discovery. It should never be imposed on anyone. Care, supervision, and guidance from an appropriate professional is recommended.
Sensory Starter Kit Equipment- Explanation

Pressure: The weighted blankets, lap blanket, shoulder weight, weighted dogs, and lycra wrap all give varying degrees of pressure for different areas of the body. Weighted dogs provide weight an added soft tactile element for calming and relaxation.
- Tapping bags when tapped on the arms, legs (or other areas of the body) will give pressure, increase alertness, and enable the user to feel more grounded and present.
- Bene Feet mat-gives pressure under the feet. Use the mats with bare feet (or with socks on) whilst sitting or standing.

Smell: The essential oils and hand creams are scented, which may be useful to distract and calm. Add a drop or two of oil on a cotton ball and use when required. The hand creams when massaged into the hands (other areas of the body) will also enable further pressure for calming.

Tactile: For fidgeting and tactile exploration, use the Tactile Pack and the Spikey Hand Massager. Tactile elements can help to either distract, or to help focus on tasks.

Visual and Sound: The Visual Timers will give visual stimulation without sound and can be useful for calming. The Dream Centre, and Sound and Light Projector also give a sound element e.g. white noise or nature sounds.

Breath control and relaxation: Use the straws to raise awareness around breathing. Blow through a straw to slow breathing, and notice connection between breath speed and calmness. Use The Calm Relaxation CD for guided relaxation

Distraction and redirection: The elastic bands can be worn around the wrist. The user can ‘ping’ the elastic band against the wrist to distract (e.g from unwanted thoughts) and redirect themselves to focus on their task.

Storage: The Suitcase and containers are used to store the equipment for the kit. Use the suitcase to transport equipment when required (especially for transporting the heavy equipment).
